Final Trash Can

Trash Can Design Project
In three weeks, I was able to produce this project that is a time capsule/trash can. Just like a normal trash can, my design has a lid but once it's closed, the bin automatically vacuums in and the cork i needed so no air can enter the bin.
The idea of this project is that it preserves all 'ideas' and projects that's inside and in 10 to 15 years time is when you can open it. This is so that the if you are lacking ideas, the 'preserved' ideas will hopefully inspire you for a totally different idea.

I've decided to put my drawings on the same material as the model as it gives the viewers a sense of what the real project will look and feel like if it were to be made.
Also, it looks more interesting rather than just drawings on plain white paper.

  1. Pat's trash can design I believed was an unique idea by making trash into objects that are precious to us and others in the future. Her process from the 3D scan of the can to her final design is detailed nicely and easy to understand. The time capsules with the vacuums were a nice idea and the way the trash is stored, maybe the place or storage of these time capsules could be further looked into, to avoid clutter in the studio?
Pat definitely gained an awareness of the readings by reintroding her junk that could be treasured and used in the future. Her two A3 pages done on the aluminium is visually interesting and commuicated her idea on a further level.

  2. Pat took the design project in a different direction from the other trashcan projects by thinking about discarded design works relevance to people in the future. The idea of saving current ideas for later and open old ones to get a new perspective is quite clever. Simply by looking at what materials and ideas were in circulation back in time and seeing how previous studen have approached there projects has allot of potential for new ideas. generally the aesthetics of the capsules were not very appealing but the suction from being vacume packing could create some interesting shapes relating to the contents as Pat explained. I thought Pats tin drawings were really interesting the way they held detail in a new way also refferring to her coments of the potential forms the tin could take on as a material for her time capsules.
